There are several different types of guardianships. The needs and situation of the individual needing a guardian will determine what type of guardian is appointed.
Guardian- Any individual, agency, or corporation appointed by the court to manage the personal affairs of a disabled person.
Emergency Limited Conservator – May be appointed if the immediate safety and security of an individual’s assets are in jeopardy, as needed to preserve such.
Emergency Limited Guardian – May be appointed if the immediate health and safety of the individual is in question, and immediate action is needed to preserve such.
Conservator – An individual, agency, or corporation appointed by the court to manage the financial resources of a disabled person;
Limited Conservator – An individual, agency, or corporation appointed by the court to assist in managing the financial resources of a partially disabled person and whose powers and duties have been specifically enumerated by court order;
Limited Guardian – An individual, agency, or corporation appointed by the court to assist in managing the personal affairs of a partially disabled person and whose powers and duties have been specifically enumerated by court order;
Successor Guardian – A person appointed by the courts to act as a legal guardian when the preceding guardian is no longer able to act, as a result of his or her death or incapacitation. *
