Think of your trainer toolbox as your “road-side assistance kit”. In one recent training, the battery in the projector remote went dead
in the middle of the session. No problem. We had spare batteries right at our fingertips in the toolbox. We keep our toolbox loaded at all times so we can grab it and go when heading out the door to a training.
• Post-it notes
• Scotch tape
• Masking tape
• Painter’s tape
• Adhesive spray
• Chart stand with wall chart pads
• A music stand -provides a place for trainer notes without creating a barrier between trainer and participants.
• Large face display clock- remember to start and end on time
• Think of the disaster if you arrived at a training session and found your projector cord was just not long enough to reach the outlets. Once again, no problem, you are thoroughly prepared as you always carry an extra-long extension cord!
Note: If you are training in a child care center, you may want to ask if there are any office supplies that are not allowed as some directors do not want push pins, staples, or any other sharp objects brought into the facility.
Keeping a portable file box fully stocked with your handouts is another handy item to have in the trainer’s work-space.
