Have you ever heard the expression, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks”?
As it turns out, that old saying is actually supported by Dr. Pat Levitt’s brain research from a study in 2009 that shows it takes more effort to change a person’s brain the older that person is.
As a trainer of early care and education workers, you will be seeking to spark learning that “changes the brains” of adult learners. Given that it will take more effort to do so in older adult learners, your job is to make sure you do everything you can in your trainings to make that extra effort worthwhile and effective.
