Trainers have different amounts of time, interest and skill in providing follow-up for participants, based on the participant’s Implementation Plan and/or the training content. But every trainer, at a minimum, should make themselves available to participants via phone and/or e-mail following training. Participants need to know that you are available, both for questions and to receive encouragement.
Follow-Up after the training by all members of the Transfer Partnership is the gauge for monitoring progress of participant’s change in behavior based on their Implementation Plans.
There are many different types of follow up with the trainee in the implementation process after the training:
Follow-Up options that encourage both ‘trainer to participant’ connections and ‘participant to participant’ connections:
Here are some video clips of creative transfer activities submitted by previous FET participants:
Here is another simple Transfer of Learning Activity for trainees to use back at their workplace.
Title of Activity: Screen Saver
Materials: Electronic Device (tablet, laptop, computer, etc.) not required on day of training.
Length of Time: 5-10 minutes for participant to write response down.
Description of Activity (What does the trainer do? What does the trainee do?):
Each participant chooses a quote, phrase, statistic, something they learned, etc. from training. Participants should be encouraged to choose something that is of importance to them, that they gained from the training.
When participants return to their workplace or home they will take that information and make it their screensaver for their tablet, phone, computer, laptop, etc. Participants should choose a device they have frequent access to. If participants have their electronic device with them, encourage them to create the screen saver at the training.
