This course employs an interactive resource to educate clinicians on how to give a postnatal diagnosis of Down syndrome, using two simulated sessions with a patient and her husband.  The course illustrates how to use best practice guidelines in informing the parents; how  to provide up-to-date, scientifically accurate, and balanced resources to patients and their families; and how to address concerns about life possibilities, related health conditions, early intervention, and informing relatives and siblings.  The course also addresses the uses and limits of screening tests, the likelihood of recurrence, and breastfeeding an infant with Down syndrome. The course includes no-cost downloadable resources,  accessible for practitioners and families and available in multiple languages, in understanding screening and testing options, a Down syndrome diagnosis, breastfeeding an infant with Down syndrome, and in welcoming a newborn with Down syndrome into the patient’s family.
