Description
⚕️ Target Audience: Medical Professionals. This course employs Brighter Tomorrows, an interactive resource to educate clinicians on how to give a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome, using two simulated sessions with a high-risk patient and her husband. The course illustrates how to use best practice guidelines in explaining the uses and limits of screening tests; the options of confirming a diagnosis through amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling and associated procedural risks; how to provide the actual diagnosis; how to provide up-to-date, medically approved, and balanced resources to patients about the meaning of Down syndrome, common health concerns, and what life is like for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, as well as a description of pregnancy management resources, including adoption. The course includes no-cost downloadable resources, accessible for practitioners and families, and available in multiple languages, on both understanding a Down syndrome diagnosis, and understanding screening and testing options.
