Course Significance:
Professionals working with older adults have an opportunity to be  a resource and provide information and education to help seniors age with dignity. A large part of quality of life in older years, is living in the best setting to meet individual needs and preferences. Unfortunately finding information on available options can be challenging. While some government agencies can provide information, local organizations can be especially useful in providing community specific information. This course will describe and define the various housing options available for seniors and provide tools to assist with the decision-making process.

 
Learning Objectives:
Through this course, the participant will gain a better understanding of  housing options and supportive services  available for people as they age, and their needs and preferences change. Whether someone is looking at options for themselves or helping a loved one, the process can be overwhelming. A broad range of options exist that include staying in the family home with home care, independent living, assisted living, continuing care retirement communities and skilled nursing care. New innovative housing and service models are being developed all the time to meet the needs and desires of aging baby boomers. The options today are quite different from what existed for our grandparents. This course will provide an overview of the  options, and tools to help seniors make this important decision.
