video clips – gains attention – can pull together information or show an example – depending on the training topic

Video clips of ideas being put to use in a classroom motivates me to do the same, and often sparks other ideas for me to use.

I chose Props as a training aid I would like to use. A prop is a physical object used to facilitate understanding and increase retention. I have started a training called “Hats off to the Director”. The main theme was to illustrate the many hats a director of a Childcare Center wears in any one day. I would use a different hat for each situation She/He might find him/her self in during any one day.

One training aid that I will use are video clips; video clips are effective training aids because participants are able to visualize, hear, and read printed information by using captions. A common learning style for adult learners is through observation, modeling, and listening; therefore, incorporating video clips as part of the training would be an effective aid to the trainer and trainee.
I would use Video clips as a training aid to provide an opportunity to frame the lesson, repeat information, and/or reiterate the content.

Think of one Training Aid that you plan to use, and in the comment box below, respond to the following:
The training aid that I use a lot in trainings are video clips from YouTube.
1) What makes this Training Aid effective? I believe that this training aid is effective because I am able to pull resources from national experts in the EC field.

2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer? I will continue to use this training aid to help expand and support the theories I am training on.

Flip Charts

1) What makes this Training Aid effective? This makes an effective training aid as it allows for the group to create it together. You can get input from different participants in the group, which helps people to learn from each other.

2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer? I see flip charts being used a lot when generating ideas from the group about what they would like to learn or questions they might have at the beginning of a training. I think that it can also be used for participants to contribute their own knowledge to the training.

Flip charts are a great way to brainstorm. Lots of different ideas being shared by educators with different levels of experience and education.

Yes, I agree with the use of flip charts being a great way to document input and thoughts from individuals which can be culminated into focal points/topics.

My training aid of choice is powerpoint.

1) What makes this Training Aid effective? It is multisensory and easy to modify the content. You can add video components and visuals. Powerpoints can be shared electronically and in print for participants to take notes.
2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer? I have personally used powerpoint and have included visuals and multimedia to provide demonstrations and maintain engagement. I would also include instructions for training activities within the powerpoint as well as provide print or electronic copies for note taking. Powerpoints can help participants maintain training schedules (modules, breaks, questions,etc.).

One training aid I plan to use is props/demonstrations
1) What makes this Training Aid effective?
This is an effective tool because seeing how something is put into practice helps connect what a person has heard in a lecture, or read in a resource. It’s a good way to include people who are more visual learners.
2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer?
I might use a demonstration as my “hook” to pull participants in so they are ready to learn. But I would also use demonstrations to support information I am sharing throughout the session. I would like to call upon willing participants to help demonstrate, or possibly have enough materials so individuals could experience my demonstration for themselves.

Think of one Training Aid that you plan to use- PowerPoint.

1) What makes this Training Aid effective?
I find that as a trainer and participant having a visual aid allows for participants to follow along easily and stay engaged. It is also versatile, can add as much or little information as needed use of embedded multimedia is very convenient.

2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer?
Often times it is used to guide the presentation and keep it on track/schedule. It is also helpful in that it is the visual presentation but can also be emailed/printed and utilized as handouts. It also easily navigates when you have multimedia such as short video clips. Trainers can also utilize it with welcome messages/instructions when participants are first arriving, and as goodbyes/closing with the presenters contact information so participants can follow up if needed.

I have done informal trainings at work for our PD Days. I love to use flipcharts and I always prep them ahead of time with necessary labels and/or drawings/graphs.
1. I believe they are an effective tool because I have colorful information at my fingertips and also am able to engage the trainees in small group brainstorming activities. As we finish, I hang them up to refer back as needed.
2. I use them like I mentioned in Number 1. Also, large group brainstorming, and to remember vocabulary.

I plan on using PowerPoint as one of my training aids. I am comfortable with this medium and have some data I want to share with participants. I feel that PowerPoint is an easy and effective way to share important data. This will also allow a visually appealing, neat and organized way to share information. I will also be able to provide the information after the training to those participants who might want it easily.

Flip charts are awesome. If participants are working on ideas for a particular training, it gives them opportunities to share by writing down what they would like to try, or what they have tried. Participants can then copy them or take a picture of the chart in order to try these ideas at their center.

1. Partial Handouts are effective for two reasons: giving the content knowledge in writing, since some people learn best by reading rather than listening to trainer talk, and giving opportunity for participants to take notes within the outlined structure, rephrasing what they’ve learned and the act of writing it down helps many people learn more effectively.
2. I have experienced this effectiveness as a student and as a trainer. Even if Complete Handouts are provided, as a learner I will write pretty much everything down as the act of translating it into my own words and writing it helps me remember it later even though I almost never refer back to my written notes on a topic. I know there are plenty of people like me! I also recognize the helpfulness to learners of having an outline of the full content in front of them in the form of the Partial Handout; they know where we’re going, can anticipate how the topics are related (which can activate prior knowledge), and I suspect it has often been a help to those whose attentiveness, eyesight, or hearing requires them to have a context for what they’re seeing or hearing in a presentation (from the back of a crowded room, for example) and they get that in a close up form with handouts. I have personally never taught a training without giving handouts, and I love them as a learner!

Flips Charts/Chart Paper

1. Training aids are able to increase interest, help participants learn, and use time effectively. My favorite training aid is flip/charts or chart paper especially when used by participants.

2. Flip charts/chart paper can work in many ways for collecting and sharing information whether it be small groups or stations that all attendees use. It requires active participation from the attendees to move around the room, get in groups, and share or write down their thoughts and ideas. It is also helpful as a trainer to be able to see the collective responses from groups to determine the comprehension of content and instruction clarity. This can be helpful during brainstorming or buzz sessions.

PowerPoints

1. What makes this Training Aid effective?
* I like PowerPoints because it is a visual aid, you can add video clips and/or pictures, and you can share your PowerPoint with your participants electronically. Also, you can always print it out if you feel that your participants will want to take notes.

2. How would you use the Training Aid in a training that you conduct or how have you seen it used by another trainer?
* I have seen the PowerPoint used in many trainings and I enjoy seeing what the trainer is going to be discussing in the training. Also recently, due to the pandemic, I have taken many training sessions through ZOOM. The trainer connected her PowerPoint and I had a visual with videos and many pictures, and links for additional resources.

1) What makes this Training Aid effective?
One training Aid I plan to use is FlipCharts. It is effective because it serves multiply purposes and is a great tool for group work.
2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer?
I would use this tool to allow groups to respond to ideas or brainstorm.

One training aid that I have always liked as a learner is flipcharts. I think this is an effective training aid because it can be used to record “highlights” of discussions, lists of ideas, questions, etc. They are a nice visual aid that can be displayed throughout the training. If participants also want to take notes, they can, but the flipcharts are like notes for the whole group. I think as a trainer, it could help me stay on track with the training while also being flexible with the needs of the participants. I like how they can be used to encourage active participation and as a way for small groups to record and present their ideas.

I enjoy using props in my training whenever possible. One of my favorite props is a beach ball that has nutrition concept questions on it, you toss it around and when participant catches the ball, you ask them to read off the question that is under their right thumb or left index finger and it they know the answer they answer it, or they can ask for a hint or help from the “audience”.

It is a fun way to incorporate movement into a review of core concepts from a nutrition training. I have used it with great enjoyment with audiences ranging in age from teen through senior citizen.

I am a visual learner, therefore, I enjoy using Power Points (PP).

1) What makes this Training Aid effective?
I like using Points Powers because you can embed short video clips within the slides. You can also voice record PP to use for virtual trainings. Providing handouts of the slides can be helpful for participants to follow as a guide and use to take notes.
2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer?
The PP guides the training completely and can be used a guide for time and flow of the training.

I have used power points in the past and I think as others have already said, video clips catch attention. I think I would like to add props.

1) What makes this Training Aid effective?
This aide can be effective because Captures attention as they may not be expected, usually easy to transport, provides an opportunity for humor, Can add a little dramatic flair, will create a memory aiding in retention, and can enhance your message if chosen properly.

2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer?
It would depend of the training, but I think hats or a simple added accessory would be easy and something to get attention of trainees. I remember a trainer using large plastic sunglasses. I think the use of a prop could be an attention-getting, memory aide or something that can be used as a hands-on activity relating to the training topic.

Video Clips

1) What make this Training Aid effective?
Video clips are effective because it gives the participants a real world example of how the skill is implemented. Talking about strategies can be difficult to grasp without seeing an example. I know that this has helped me in past trainings.

2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer?
After presenting the participants with the content and before doing the activity to practice the skill, I would show the video clip. This could help solidify the information and help the the participants grasp the content better. This could also help their confidence when doing the activity.

Flip charts -I have attended many training’s that utilize flip charts.
1) What makes this Training Aid effective? I am a visual learner and seeing information written out utilizes multi-sensory materials in print and visually. This training aid can serve as group notes, an outlet for brainstorming ideas, and encourage individual involvement. They also can be displayed throughout the training as a reference.

2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer? I would use this training aid as an opportunity for groups to share their thoughts/ideas on the subject matter by actively participating. As a trainer, it is a great way to re-emphasis the content being presented and helps to assess the groups comprehension of the content.

One training aid I plan on using is Handouts

1) What makes this Training Aid effective? I feel handouts are effective for various reasons. I feel it is a clear way to organize the material presented. The participants will be aware of what will be discussed. A training will include much information and it is helpful to be able to refer to this handout to reinforce the material discussed.

2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer? I would first be certain that each handout is neat in appearance prior to the training. Afterward, I would distribute these on each table, in ample time before the training begins. Participants could use the handouts to follow along with the material taught. I would also use bullets to emphasize information, use appropriate font size and include areas to write down notes.

I always use the TimeTimer. It is a time that operates as a visual representation of time; when you set it, the time to be elapsed is in red, and as the time elapses, the red disappears. It helps to use for breaks, so a quick glance lets the attendees know when to be back!

One training aid that I plan to use will be props.

1) What makes this Training Aid effective? I feel props will encourage participants to engage in the training. Props are visual and will help participants better understand material presented, it will also spark excitement and enthusiasm as the training moves forward. At the end of the training I want to give away a few props used during the training.

2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer? I would have props set up in front of the room. As the training takes place I would used what prop I needed to reach the visual learner. After demonstration with the prop I would place it on a table in the back of the room so participants could explore further. (this will aid learners the opportunity to use all senses while exploring). Then I would use props as incentives at the end of the training. (drawings)

1) What makes this Training Aid effective?
I would use a variety, but I chose props

2) How would you use that Training Aid in a training that you conduct OR how you have seen it used by another trainer?
In a class that I was in, we had two weeks to come up with our group project. We decided to do Jeopardy. We used our lesson with the subject that we were given, and we got the class involved . It was fun to see the class engaged
