Topic 2: Informing Policymakers – Section 125 (c) (5) (J)

Amber: “Policymakers can only make strides toward change if they have the data they need to do so. The Council provides some of this information directly to Federal, State, and Local policymakers. It must be detailed, accurate, and reflective.”

The Council may support and conduct activities to:

Provide information to policymakers by…

— conducting studies & analyses

— gathering information

— developing model policies, approaches, strategies, and procedures

— disseminating information, findings, conclusions, and recommendations

Provide the information directly to Federal, State, and local policymakers, including Congress, the Federal executive branch, Governors, State legislatures, and State agencies. This increases such policymakers’ ability to offer opportunities and to enhance or adapt generic services to meet the needs of, or provide specialized services to, individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
